SOLAR POWER
SOLAR POWER
- Solar power refers to the generation of electricity from sunlight by
using photovoltaic cells linked to battery banks.
Solar power is the generation of electricity from sunlight can be;
- Direct as with photovoltaics (PV)
- Indirect as with concentrating solar power (CSP), where the
sun's energy is focused to boil water which is then used to provide
power.
Solar technologies are broadly characterized as either passive or active
depending on the way they capture, convert and distribute sunlight.
-
Passive solar techniques include
selecting materials with favorable thermal properties, designing
spaces that naturally circulate air, and referencing the position of
a building to the Sun.
-
Active solar techniques use
photovoltaic panels, pumps, and fans to convert sunlight into useful
outputs.
Solar radiation, along with secondary
solar-powered resources such as wind and
wave power, hydroelectricity and biomass, account for most of the
available renewable energy on earth.
